Open Heart Procedures
For some people, open-heart surgery is the best option to treat their cardiovascular conditions. Patients in need of this treatment can take confidence in the skill and expertise of the surgeons and medical staff at The Heart Center, who have performed more than 2,000 open-heart surgeries.
"We have two dedicated open-heart surgery suites," Dr. Rosenblum says. "This allows us to streamline patient care with the flow of our cath labs and to care for a greater volume of patients, which is anticipated by the growth of our program and the community."
The large suites have the latest in monitoring and surgical equipment, which maximizes patient safety and comfort as well as ensures the best possible outcomes for patients.
In addition to the most advanced equipment, Capital Regional provides the community with state-of-the-art open-heart procedures including endoscopic vein harvesting and transmyocardial laser revascularization (TMR).
In Phase I, inpatients learn about the risk factors for heart disease and how exercise can help decrease their chances of another episode. After discharge from the hospital, patients with a physician's referral begin Phase II in which they exercise under the supervision of medical staff. During Phase III, patients can take advantage of the medical center's gym by continuing their exercise for lifelong maintenance.
"Learning to do the proper exercises strengthens the patient's heart and eases any fears of overworking the body, says Mary Waller, exercise physiologist. "Beginning this process promptly promotes healing. As patients continue with an exercise regimen they can help to prevent another cardiac event."
